Elements of a soundtrack
- What is a film score and why is it used?
A film score is where the orchestra have to follow to create an atmosphere in the film. For example in Harry Potter they use stringed instruments to cause tension to their audience, making them feel emotion about what they're seeing.
- What are Foley sound effects and why are they used?
Sound effects made by people on a floor/stage, creating sound that is missing from a film sequence and/or making the sound more interesting and more believable.
For example making a sound like swords swinging, they don't really make much noise, take a clothes hanger and start swinging that around it makes more of an impact.
- What is ADR and why is it used?
Automated dialogue replacement, the art of syncing and matching noises to what's on the screen. Creating a different dialogue that replaces the first recording that isn't clear enough; interrupting sound, unneeded background noise.
- What is the art of sound design?
Type of sound effects and creating new sound. Wall-e is an example because they design sound for inanimate objects.
